“It’s the people that make it. There’s no pressure, everyone is so friendly, so welcoming, but the buzz you get when you perform is amazing!”

Meet Emily

Emily formed Brighton Swing Choir in April 2015 to spread the joy of singing swing music in part harmony, and Mondays have never been so full of fun and beautiful singing!

She is an energetic and passionate choir leader whose creativity and enthusiasm brings the group together for sessions filled with fun and laughter. She uses a variety of physical and vocal warm-ups, exercises and games at the start of each session to encourage creativity and self-confidence whilst promoting vocal potential and the health benefits of singing. Emily also arranges all the songs for Brighton Swing Choir.

Originally from Edinburgh, Emily trained as a classical pianist and later as a Music Therapist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, qualifying in 2008. She has since developed a thriving career as a piano teacher, music therapist, choir leader and performer. She has performed as a soloist, accompanist and in various ensembles and groups encompassing a range of genres including classical, rock, folk and swing. In her therapy work she is focused on work with vulnerable, at-risk children and running therapeutic singing groups for adults with dementia. She is also a Family and Systemic Practitioner.

I love the music, I love the arrangements that we do, but most of all I just love going to choir and the teamwork
